Landscape With House and Ploughman by Van Gogh
After Germany looted Russia in WWII and had to withdraw, Russia
formed “Trophy Brigades” to confiscate art and recoup losses, only they called
it “resaving.” Among the Hermitage museum in St Petersburg’s “resaved” paintings
are and included 74 Impressionist and
Post-impressionist canvases; including six by Monet, four by Gauguin, seven by
Cézanne, 15 by Renoir, and four by Van Gogh.
